Beginner I

Teacher: Mark Zhang
Time: Saturdays 3-4PM
Our beginner class focuses on the fundamental strategies of go, such as capture strategies, group shapes, and simple early and end game strategies.

Elwin Li
Co-Founder, Executive Director
Elwin is the Executive Director and Co-founder of Kosumi. He has been playing go for 10 years, and has represented the US in the 2018 World Youth Go Championships, getting 5th place. As the main teacher of Kosumi, he hopes to share his passion for the game with his students.

Ever since his first game a few years ago during a chance encounter with a 5 dan on a stormy November evening, Mark has desired to spread awareness about go in America. He hopes to share his interest with the students at Kosumi and guide them along their go-playing journey.

Amanda is Kosumi's Outreach Director and a junior at Mountain View High School, where she is also involved in the Go club. She fell in love with the game a few summers ago and hopes to help other players do the same.

Technology and Media Officer
Sander, also a junior at Mountain View High School, has never played go a day in his life. He serves as the manager of media, online presence, and all things technological at Kosumi. He is the sole developer of the Kosumi site and online dashboard (from scratch,) so all bugs are his doing 🙃. You can learn more about how this website was made on Github or on his projects page.
1st Kosumi Go Cup
Kosumi is excited to invite you to participate in our very first Kosumi Go Cup, a two-day tournament that will take place on the weekend of 10/8 and 10/9! Players at all levels are welcome. The registration deadline is Wednesday, 10/5 at 11:59 pm PT.
